AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST
Grant Moon has a rummage down the back of the Progsofa for the ones that nearly got away…
Influenced by King Crimson and Soft Machine, Scottish trio Alternative Communication formed in 1980 at Edinburgh University, disbanded in ’85 then re-formed in 2019. They make a compelling noise on their latest release, The Three Body Problem (alternativecommunication.bandcamp. com), a dark psych work with a dash of Canterbury and a splash of dissonant noise-rock. Synths, piano, Gizmotrons and flugelhorn are all in the cloudy mix, with Janette Kidd’s likeable, if sometimes reedy vocals front and centre.
