Q&A
MATT DORSEY
The former Sound Of Contact multi-instrumentalist talks about how he overcame shyness to release a solo album, and why philosophy continues to underpin his own songwriting.
Words: Chris Cope Portrait: Erik Nielsen
Matt Dorsey is perhaps best known for being a member of prog supergroup Sound Of Contact, but for years he’s harboured a desire to plough his own path in music. With the band now dormant, and his other projects – such as In Continuum, with former SOC bandmate Dave Kerzner – on the backburner, time opened for the California-based musician to release his debut solo album Let Go. The man of many talents took on most of the duties, playing bass, guitar, keyboards and percussion as well as providing the vocals, although there was still space for guest slots from drummers Marco Minnemann and Jonathan Mover, as well as Kerzner. It’s been a long time coming but the album has finally been released and Matt Dorsey couldn’t be happier.
