Ed’s Letter
Hello and welcome to the latest issue of Prog magazine. I spent the weekend immersed in the rather lovely eight-disc ‘monster’ edition of Jethro Tull’s 1982 album The Broadsword And The Beast which, as I’m sure you can’t have failed to notice, graces the cover of this issue.
What a joy, transporting me back my teenage years when I discovered the band for the first time. Those albums through which you discover a band last with you a lifetime (even if it means you’re sometimes saddled with something like Tormato for life – as indeed I am!). But with Broadsword Tull seemed to find the perfect fit of echoing their rich past with one eye on adapting for a new decade. You can read Johnny Sharp’s fascinating story of the album on p28, while Ian Anderson looks at how the band fared for the whole of the 80s on p36.
