Originally making her mark as the otherworldly co-vocalist in Dead Can Dance alongside former partner Brendan Perry, Lisa Gerrard has found a fertile habitat in soundtrack work. Her most famous piece is, of course, Now We Are Free, co-written with Hans Zimmer for the Gladiator soundtrack. Seemingly unconnected to that movie’s recently released sequel – but nicely timed nevertheless – is this collection of her solo recordings, several of which have also found their way into cinematic settings, if they weren’t written with such use in mind in the first place.
