IN PRAISE OF THE BIG BARNET

More big men with big beards, and women with big hair – it’s no bad thing! Kate Bush’s voluminous hairdos led me to listen to Hounds Of Love from an early age. The titular side one sounded a bit underwhelming [on a recent listen] – I used to really like it. Similarly The Ninth Wave used to affect me in a way it doesn’t today, apart from Hello Earth, Under Ice and Watching You Without Me.

It just goes to show personal music tastes change.

Equilibrium was restored with a full play of Judas Priest’s Painkiller!

Prog 162: in praise of Kate Bush.

SOUNDS OF LOVE

Thanks for another excellent cover starring the genius that is Kate Bush [Prog 162]! I really enjoyed your deep dive into the recording process of Hounds Of Love – who knew that it was her vocals at the beginning of Peter Gabriel’s Games Without Frontiers? Not me! – and reading Guido Harari’s recollections of the accompanying photoshoot. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of listening to her albums: Kate was (is?) a remarkable artist, the likes of which we just don’t see these days. I can’t be alone in hoping she’s inspired once more to make some new music. (I’ll admit, you nearly got me with her “contribution” to the Is This What We Want? album!) The interviews with some of her musical fans were also intriguing – The Blackheart Orchestra are one of those bands I kept reading about in Prog but hadn’t got round to checking out yet. Thanks to this article, I finally did and I regret not checking them out sooner. I’m a new fan!
