Ed’s Letter
Hello and welcome to the latest issue of Prog. So finally, after many delays (I know two people who have been working on this for a total of 20 years between them!), the 50th-anniversary box set of Genesis’s fabled 1974 album, The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, is with us. And so, too, our cover story, which also feels like it’s been in the works for ages (well, two years, at least). We look at the ensuing tour for the album, during which, of course, Peter Gabriel decided to quit the band. Such a pivotal moment in the history of progressive rock, I’m sure you’ll agree. Prog writer Daryl Easlea speaks to those who were there at the time: band, management, crew and fans, to discover the truth behind what unveils itself to be a quite harrowing time in Genesis and prog’s evolution, for myriad reasons. You can read it on p28.
