911 & Porsche World  |  Nov-25
‘Tis the season to be thinking about retiring our cars from the road until spring. Apparently. I’ve never been one to subscribe to this idea. Granted, I don’t want to take my 911 out in inclement weather unless I really have to, but I’ve never withdrawn the car from use for long periods. Well, not unless it’s a forced state of suspended animation due to ongoing maintenance or repair work, such as you’ll read about later in this magazine. Granted, there’s merit in spending the cold snap taking care of myriad jobs and servicing in advance of supposed good weather, but in truth, seasons are less pronounced than ever, with summers punctuated by torrential rainfall and winters boasting cool air and blazing sunshine.
The upshot is amazing driving conditions year-round, though I admit they’re not as easy to predict during winter. The takeaway from these ramblings is this: your Porsche will not dissolve if it gets wet. Worried about road salt? Hose down the underside of the car after use on streets you suspect are covered in the stuff. Porsches don’t like being left motionless. Airflow, not to mention circulation of lubricants, is of vital importance in ensuring your car stays fresh. With this in mind, don’t be afraid to use it, whatever the weather.
