IBARGÜEN DREAM REALITY

TRIPLE JUMP
CATERINE IBARGÜEN claimed an historic first athletics gold for Colombia as she led a South America one-two in Brazil.
The only athlete to go beyond 15 metres, she recorded 15.17m in the fourth round and couldn’t be beaten.
The competition had come down to a battle between the world champions as global outdoor winner Ibargüen beat indoor gold medallist Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela, who secured silver with 14.98m. Defending champion Olga Rypakova of Kazakhstan jumped 14.74m for bronze.
“It was my dream to obtain a medal,” said two-time world champion Ibargüen, who had claimed silver in London. “I prepared intensely for this and ever since I left the Olympic village I knew I would return with a medal.
