AW – Athletics Weekly Magazine  |  AW February 2025
The latest issue of AW magazine features an exclusive interview with British middle distance star Keely Hodgkinson. The 800m Olympic champion discusses life in the spotlight, her growing profile and the new, upcoming event – the Keely Klassic – that bears her name. She also talks through the work that has gone into her target of breaking the world indoor record.
The Keely Klassic meeting is aiming to do things a little differently and so, too, is the Grand Slam Track project being headed up by Michael Johnson. The multiple Olympic and world champion goes into detail about what he hopes to achieve with the concept that has created plenty of headlines and discussion before a step has even been run.
Grand Slam Track is focusing solely on track events, which has heightened the feeling of field events being marginalised. Olympic and world shot put champion Ryan Crouser has some ideas on how to help his event, however, and he talks about why track and field becoming more fractured is potentially a healthy thing for the sport.
As we head into the teeth of the indoor season, world indoor pole vault champion Molly Caudery reveals how she has been getting over the heartache of Olympic disappointment, while Olympic 1500m silver medallist Yared Nuguse explains why he is happy to rely on just being himself – rather than engage in the kind of trash talking used by rivals Josh Kerr and Jakob Ingebrigtsen – as he goes in search of more major medals.
The European Indoor Championships will be the first major event of 2025 and there is also an exclusive interview with Apeldoorn 2025 tournament director Dafne Schippers. The two-time world 200m champion talks about life after sprinting, plus the growing strength of athletics in the Netherlands.
Our performance section also features a nutrition special with leading sports dietician Renee McGregor, coaching advice from Marina Armstrong, training insight from Holly Archer and Paul Freary’s reviews of the latest footwear.
