Old School Legends and Tribute to Roger Smith
Sadly, another old school legend passed away last month, my dear friend Roger Smith. Roger and I fished together at Savay, sharing many hours on the bank, the pub and the Indian. Roger was a one-off – that’s for sure. His unique take on life gave him a type of humour I have never found in another man. This month’s issue contains a tribute to Roger from many of his friends, almost 200 in fact, some sent to me, others from the social networks, and many with references to funny anecdotes he had relayed to them during the years. I have also included my recollections of Roger with many humourous tales of our time fishing and socialising together.
Also this month, we have some Kevin Maddocks on his time at Ashlea Pool, Andy Little tackles Burton, Alf Martin’s Lucifer, Alan Downie has a happy New Year, Rod Hutchinson remembers Cassien, Peter Mohan has a lament for a lost lake, Mike Starkey sets off on a quest, Martin Stone remembers a wonderful Oxfordshire gravel pit and Geoffrey Adams remembers Roger Smith.
Add to this all the latest carpy news and reviews, some great competitions to win Urban Bait, a holiday for two anglers at Lake Bossard, bundles of books and magazine subscriptions, and you can see why Big Carp has been going for 30 years and is still the proper carper’s favourite read.
