When Terence Trent D’Arby’s debut LP was released on 13 July 1987, the singer wasted little time in hyping it up to the heavens, calling it the most important album since Sgt Pepper. Unusually, the hype was justified – Introducing The Hardline According To Terence Trent D’Arby would debut at No.1 and go on to be certified 5× platinum (for sales of 1.5 million copies) in the UK. In fact, worldwide, the album shifted a million copies within its first three days of going on sale.
