One wonders how James’ new label responded when All The Colours Of You arrived. Another pandemic product, its opening track Zero’s first line is “We’re all going to die” – hardly a marketing man’s dream – while “I’ll sing when you choke” certainly lacks empathy. But, just as singer Tim Booth’s exile in LA from his UK-based bandmates hasn’t held them back, so he refuses to duck difficult subjects on their 16th album, addressing Trump’s America, racism and climate change with relish. Unfortunately, he does so too often in neither subtle nor articulate fashion, shooting wildly from the hip on the title track – “President’s your man, he’s the Ku Klux Klan” – before gauchely wielding the words “Disunited States” like a naïve student.
