Despite his fifth album’s title, modesty doesn’t forbid Graham Gouldman borrowing from Bowie’s Fame to kick off Standing Next To Me, though it already features Ringo Starr, whose All-Starr Band is the song’s subject. Waited All My Life further underlines his Beatles affiliations, but on That’s Love Right There he exercises his croon, and there’s something Daltrey-esque about Wake Up Dreamer, even if the song’s more Squeeze than Who. Some tracks feel a little humdrum, but Hangin’ By A Thread’s definitely there for Gouldman’s 10cc fans.
