Dancing Times  |  October 2012
W ho doesn’t love those great dance routines in Hollywood musicals, performed by such stars as Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers or Gene Kelly? Well, some of those wonderful musicals, along with an exciting array of other movies, are celebrated in a major new exhibition, Hollywood Costume, which opens at the Victoria and Albert Museum later this month. On page 15, assistant curator Keith Lodwick gives us a preview of some of the highlights of the exhibition. Also in this issue of Dancing Times, Lorna Sanders commences our two-part A Level Study Aid on Akram Khan and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s zero degrees, and, on page 39, Paul Arrowsmith discovers more about what can be found in a number of important dance archives and collections in the UK. Zoë Anderson talks to Jonathan Burrows about the “new-look” Dance Umbrella on page 35, and, on page 25, Moira Goff introduces us to a project that aims to recreate the first ballet, John Weaver’s The Loves of Mars and Venus. Finally, don’t forget we will be holding a sale of books, CDs and DVDs on November 5 – see page 69 for details.
