I have had an unexpected problem with my new desktop PC. It’s operated by Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and works perfectly. However, when I tried out the latest versions of Xubuntu and Linux Lite running them in memory only, they both covered the screen with the error message:
“PCIe bus error: severity = corrected: type = physical layer” : receiver ID Device [8086 etc.
Both OSes eventually loaded and could read the files on the hard drive, but Linux Lite was unstable. Sources on the Internet suggest it’s caused by some hardware on the PC. I’ve never had this problem before. Is there a simple explanation?
I always buy from PCSpecialist, which can supply machines with no operating system. Although it mainly supplies Windows machines I know that other Linux users buy from them. All my purchases have run Linux with no hardware problems. My new PC has an Asus H310M-A motherboard, an Intel i5 processor, 16GB DDR4 memory and 512GB 2.5-inch SSD.
