Compatibility issues between Linux and Windows, or Mac and Windows have long existed. Beyond obvious differences in available applications, there’s also another minefield: filenames. Copying a file between two computers has more caveats than you might expect. Long file names become truncated if a FAT32 thumb drive is used; files and folders with special characters in their names may not copy at all; and names with non-English characters are another concern, especially when dealing with files inside a ZIP archive.
