WHILE THEY LOOK LOVELY, OLED screens have been something of a luxury. But prices have been falling, and we’ve reached the third generation of panels, with numerous releases timed for CES. They’re bigger and brighter, but burn-in still exists, even if it’s nowhere near the problem it was once feared to be.
Just before the holidays, LG announced five new UltraGear models, including the 32GS95UE, a 32-inch screen that can switch between 4K at 240Hz, and 1080p at 480Hz. Now, Samsung has announced the Odyssey G6 G60SD, G8 G80SD, and the G9 G95SD, the latter more of an update than an all-new panel. The smallest is the 27-inch G6, a 2,560 by 1,440 panel with a game-friendly refresh rate of 360Hz, and a response time of 0.03ms. The G8 is a 32-inch 3,840 by 2,160 screen (4K), with a refresh of 240Hz, and the same 0.03ms response. The G9 is a curved 49-incher with a 32:9 aspect ratio at 5,120 by 1,440.
