Apple has confirmed a launch date of February 2 for the Vision Pro headset. For $3,499, you get an M2 processor, 4K OLED displays, and plenty of cameras. It’s a unique blend of augmented reality and virtual reality. Apple arrived late to the VR party, but has something characteristically innovative.
Software-wise, visionOS has a three-dimensional interface operated by voice or movement. There are immersive environments to gawp at, and it even shows your face on an external screen. You don’t get much battery life, though—about two hours tether-free. Apple’s system is stunning, but is hardly mainstream at this price. Has it made something we didn’t know we really wanted again?
