Emergency departments failing on mental health

A new report has concluded that too many people are failing to get the help they need when they arrive at emergency departments in a mental health crisis.

Last month the Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch (HSIB) published a review highlighting the variation in mental health care across emergency departments, and set out recommendations aimed at improving patient care.

The investigation followed HSIB being notified of the case of Diane, a 57-year-old woman who died by suicide.
