Slightly larger but
marginally lighter than the competing Sigma 100-400mm, the Tamron was launched a little later into the category of relatively compact, lightweight and affordable 100-400mm zooms. Handling is arguably more intuitive for Nikon shooters, as the zoom ring operates in the same direction as own-brand Nikon lenses, whereas it’s reversed in the Sigma. Another handling bonus is that Tamron offers an A035TM tripod mounting ring as an optional extra, but it’s typically pricey at £109/$129.
