As the new year settles in with force and the holidays whittle away into a distant memory, we cosy up with a heavy dose of Scandi, starting with an icon of Danish architecture and design – Bodil Kjær. In light of the recent relaunch of Kjær‘s furniture series Elements of Architecture, reproduced by Carl Hansen & Søn, we set upon rediscovering the dame who spearheaded the flexible work movement in the early 60s.
Elsewhere in the issue, we take you to Henning Larsen’s Kiruna Town Hall – the first building to mark the relocation of Sweden’s northernmost town, projected to sink into a mine within the century. And for a little less of a dystopian story, there’s always ALA Architects’ Oodi – Helsinki’s new Central Library hailed as a modern interpretation of the library.
As is customary this time of year, you’ll find a roundup of this year’s top furniture brands in our annual Storage Special. And to celebrate 2019, we’ve also introduced two new features: firstly, One Year In, where tenants (on this occasion, law firm Cederquist) rate how their office has performed in its first year; and secondly, This or That – a personalised and light-hearted feature designed to get to know you better. Swedish lighting brand founder Magnus Wästberg is first to the party. Here’s hoping you’ll enjoy this issue away from the office and on a very hygge night in!
