As I sit in my tracksuit bottoms, spooning baked beans from the can, the gentle tones of Jessica Fletcher in ‘Murder, She Wrote’ soothing me as we go to press on the final issue of Outdoor Swimmer of 2020, I am struck yet again by what a wretched hell of year it has been. But it looks as though hope is peeking around the corner, and even in the depths of Lockdown 2, it has been possible to find joy in surprising places. Winter is coming, yes, but I have been embracing the dark with night walks and night swims and taking a strange kind of thrill from daily cold showers. Odd? Who cares, it’s 2020 – if you want to wear a Cher wig while doing the hoovering, go for your life, sir. It’s the year of no judgement – make the most of it.
