IGGY POP JOINS UNDERWORLD
On 26 May, Underworld played the BBC’s Biggest Weekend in Belfast, where they debuted Bells & Circles, a new track featuring Iggy Pop on vocals. The song, which tells the story of Iggy snorting cocaine on a flight from New York to Washington, DC in the seventies with The Stooges, over Underworld’s pounding techno riff, was the first taste of the secret collaboration between the two, but not the last. On 27 July, a further three tracks will be released alongside Bells & Circles on the Teatime Dub Encounters EP. That, though, will be it, for now. Iggy has said that, at seventy one years old, he’ll never tour again or record a full album. So how did the nineties techno dons lure the legendary singer out of semi-retirement in Florida? Their mutual friend, Irvine Welsh, author of Trainspotting, gathers both parties to a Miami hotel to find out.
