FLUID THINKING Water is not only good for keeping you hydrated, regulating metabolism and boosting mental function, it could also help you make healthier food choices. A study published in Food, Culture & Society: An International Journal of Multidisciplinary Research reveals that making frequent trips to the water cooler could be the answer to controlling ‘negative nutrition’ at work. Making positive food choices at work requires careful planning which is often disrupted by offi ce ‘food altars’ – places in which sugary treats, meeting leftovers and birthday cake are put out. The researchers tracked a group of offi ce workers and how they attempted to stay clear of the ‘food altar’. Within 24 hours, sipping water was shown to be the favoured way of avoiding unhealthy snacks.
