History today
BY GARY DALKIN
Founded in 1970, Early American Life is a full colour, glossy print magazine published bimonthly, plus a special Christmas issue. Its focus is early American (up to the mid-19th century) history, culture, heritage and traditions. For example, the current issue, (Vol 49, No1, Feb 2018) includes features on the French and English traders who traded fur for blankets with Native Americans; how mourning customs brought from Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries were adapted to American life; Valentine’s customs among German immigrants in Pennsylvania, and how manuscript cookbooks reveal the foods and recipes Dutch settlers brought to America. The title also covers early American architecture and antiques, arts and crafts and gardening.
