The Wind and the Trees

IN SPRING 2018, Montreal artist Todd Stewart arrived at his family’s seldom-used cottage in Western Quebec. After realizing he might not always have access to the land, he decided to take a week and spend some time there alone. Stewart intended to use the stay as a makeshift artist’s residency, but he didn’t have anything in particular he wanted to work on. By the end of the week, he’d fully developed the premise for his author-illustrator debut, The Wind and the Trees (OwlKids, March).
