Tilbury-Theale stone traffic doubles
AGGREGATES traffic from the Port of Tilbury to FM Conway’s terminal inTheale has doubled to two trains per week after the two parties signed anew five-year deal. More than 3,000 tonnes of Norwegian aggregate are being moved by Freightliner each week, with trains on Tuesdays and Fridays. The aggregate is for use on road building and other projects.
Southampton remodelling improves freight access
RAIL access to the Port of Southampton has been upgraded following a £17 million project to remodel lines between the city’s Central station and Redbridge.
Between February 13 and 19, passenger services were temporarily suspended west of Southampton while Network Rail commissioned 22 new signals installed in 2020. More than a mile of new track and 14 new sets of switches and crossings have also been introduced on lines serving the port.
