STAR LETTER
MISSING NICK
Hi guys, I was deeply saddened to learn of Nick’s passing and my thoughts go out to his family, friends, and colleagues.
I first came across Nick through the pages of Retro Gamer, it was impossible not to be impressed by his work, always entertaining and informative with enough of himself weaved through it to make it stand out, there really aren’t enough plaudits to do it justice.
I threw Nick a follow on social media, he responded by following me back, it was there I realised that as talented as Nick was there was a wonderful, warm, kind-hearted person behind the work. As the old adage goes ‘to know him was to love him’ and in an era where so much of social media was about peacocking to the crowd, he was always welcoming, preferring to share his knowledge and passion instead of gatekeeping it. I began watching his Twitch streams, hanging out in the chat talking nonsense whilst enjoying him play through a selection of titles including Sakura Wars, Valkyria Chronicles and Headhunter.
During Lockdown when things ground to a halt Retro Gamer became one of the key constants. Living alone there really wasn’t much to focus on, the only contact with other humans being delivery drivers and social media, but Retro Gamer arriving through the letterbox every month was one of the few joys to hold on to, and Nick was one of the key reasons I looked forward to it so much.
