SCRAP AND SCROLL
Darran and Tim reminisce about their favourite scrolling fighters
DARRAN JONES
TIM EMPEY
Scrolling fighters were everywhere in the Eighties and Nineties, but largely disappeared during the Noughties. The last few years has seen the genre making a comeback, so Tim and Darran have been discussing a selection of their favourite examples.
DARRAN
What’s the first scrolling fighter you played, Tim?
TIM
Oh, that’s a toss-up between Target: Renegade on the C64, Double Dragon in the arcade, and I’m sure I played Kung-Fu Master on some system, maybe arcade because I remember the sprites being rather large. Does Bruce Lee count? There’s not that much fighting in it, not as much as the rest of them anyway. What were your first ones?
DARRAN
Some nice choices there, Tim, although Bruce Lee stretches things a little bit. Kung-Fu Master was definitely mine as it was in our local chip shop. Shame the Amstrad version was a bit naff. Did you play Double Dragon a lot?
