The New Zealand Secondary School Championships, known as the Maadi Cup, is New Zealand’s biggest annual secondary schools sports event. The week-long celebration of rowing starts with a street parade and culminates with two days of finals. More than 2000 students, from over 200 different schools take part. The location alternates each year, odd years are held at Lake Karapiro in the North Island, and even years are at Lake Ruataniwha in the South Island. This year it was the North Islanders turn to host.
