It's that time of year again! The new year resolutions are falling by the wayside as trips to the gym and veganuary diets start to lose their appeal, and the weather is doing its worst (as we prepared this issue for print, it was minus 8 degrees outside) but on the plus side we have a new rugby league season to look forward to.
Betfred Super League XXIX kicks off on Thursday 15th February when Hull FC take on Hull KR in an East Yorkshire derby that will be played in front of a packed crowd as well as the Sky TV cameras and it is sure to get the competition underway with a bang.
There are lots of changes to the way the game will be played this year, and as well as examining the new tackle rule, we've asked the men in the middle, our Super League referees, for their thoughts on the challenges new rules present for players and officials alike.
The centrepiece of this issue is our detailed club-by-club preview of the Super League season, and you can use this along with the free Fixture Guide to gauge the prospects of success for your favourite team, and their rivals, as well as track where and when they will be playing throughout the year.
The Challenge Cup has already kicked off, but in the depths of winter that June date at Wembley can seem a long way off. That summer date in the capital is also the prize being sought by the clubs taking part in the 1895 Cup which we preview in this issue, ahead of the full launch of the Betfred Championship and League One, which we'll cover next month.
We've also put your questions to Barrie McDermott, one of Sky's long-serving commentary team, and he answers them with his own unique sense of humour and honesty!
There's plenty more to keep you entertained inside, including stars of the game in the Netherlands and Malta, plus we catch up with State of Origin legend Gene Miles.
