Scottish Islands Explorer  |  Sept - Oct 2018
The September / October 2018 edition has a wide range of feature articles. Orkney Standing Stones appear on the front cover and, obviously, go back in time. The saints associated with Eileach an Naoimh reach into the current era while an item on The Potter’s Tale considers Colonsay in the 1970s. There’s a look at football in the Northern Isles where the season is well underway. Alien creatures are constantly on the lookout for places to settle and develop while birds from Asia sometimes inadvertently land on distant British isles, particularly Fair Isle, where people both survive and thrive. The work of the social historian, Michael Robson, is commemorated and that of the painter, Euan McGregor, is presented. There is a local alternative to Iona ready to be visited and so do discover Erraid. It is a tidal island and the services of CalMac are not required for the final leg of the journey. However, its services on the Mallaig to Lochboisdale crossing are an interesting topic for travellers to the Scottish islands. Become an explorer of them!
