DESCRIBING IT AS “X-Men meets Avatar: The Last Airbender”, David Pepose has long wanted to relaunch Captain Planet, believing that it is all too relevant for current times. Now after scripting fellow Hanna-Barbera animation Space Ghost last year, he’s introducing the Planeteers to Dynamite Entertainment’s Warner Animation line.
“Like many ’90s children, I grew up watching Captain Planet, but it wasn’t until I was an adult that I realised the sheer potential behind the concept, as it’s inherently multicultural and diverse in such a truly organic way that we haven’t seen since the days of Giant-Sized X-Men,” he says, referring to 1975’s classic debut of the New X-Men.
