It may be the most shameless lampshading in Hollywood history, given that the titular star of this colour remake of the 1933 classic (now impressively restored) is indeed some guy in an ape suit. At least, when it’s not a giant mechanical paw or an inert, life-sized prop with faulty hydraulics, looming over a crowd of unimpressed extras.
