NANNY
PRIME VIDEO Nikyatu Jusu’s debut won the big prize at the most recent Sundance Film Festival, and it’s not hard to see why. While there’s no shortage of metaphor-heavy horrors out there, Jusu brings a unique east-meets-west perspective, with figures from West African folklore tormenting her protagonist Aisha (Alice Diop) on the streets of Manhattan. To make matters worse, Aisha is being subjected to as many sociopolitical evils as supernatural ones. She’s in New York working as a nanny for a filthy rich white couple with a dysfunctional marriage, poor professional boundaries and an aversion to paying overtime.
