ROUND UP
If you bought Arrow’s 2016 Blu-ray, whether to upgrade DONNIE DARKO (4K Blu-ray, 26 April) comes down mainly to the UHD format – there are no new on-disc extras, with excellent 85-minute doc Deus Ex Machina and a host of archive bonuses carried over. Included is the longer Director’s Cut, which reinstates worthwhile scenes but whose use of on-screen text some feel diminishes the enigma. It comes with a 100-page book which reprints an in-depth Kelly interview from 2001’s The Donnie Darko Book, fold-out poster, and six postcards. Thanks to its recent BBC Two run THE TERROR (Blu-ray/DVD/ download, 3 May) will be on iPlayer for the rest of 2021, but if you must have a copy for your shelf you can also buy the disc. This tale of a 19th century Arctic expedition sees two ships trapped in the ice for years, hunted by a monstrous bear spirit. When it first aired here (via AMC Global) in 2018 we said: “The attention to historical detail, passionate performances and impressive production values make this a series that reeks of quality.” Also coming to shiny disc after a VOD debut: the reboot of WRONG TURN (Blu-ray/DVD), which replaces the 2003 original’s mutant backwoods cannibals with skull-wearing cultists. We said: “Feels like the same movie, but after a half-arsed sensitivity read. The effort that’s gone into trying to make it feel current is palpable, but it’s still a Wrong Turn movie.” It comes with director’s commentary, a Making Of and deleted scenes.
