China’s Dalian Shipbuilding is to complete two 7,500m3 capacity CO2 tankers for Norway’s Northern Lights, which is developing a receiving terminal in western Norway, where the CO2 will be stored before being transported by pipeline to a geological reservoir located 2,600m under the seabed for permanent storage.
The twin ships, which are also to be equipped with a deck-mounted rotor for fuel economy, will make use of a CO2 Gas Handling System developed by TGE Marine Gas Engineering, a Germany company that has already supplied more than 250 gas handling and storage systems for gas tankers, as well as FSRUs and FPSOs.
