■ A 4mm (US G/6) hook
■ Fabric scissors
■ A waistcoat
■ 4 buttons, 15mm
■ Needle and thread in matching shades
TENSION
21 sts and 12 rows measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over pattern using a 4mm hook, or size needed to obtain correct tension

Pattern can be adapted to work to any size waistcoat
ABBREVIATIONS

NOTES
Before you begin, prepare the waistcoat by removing the front panels. The Body Panels will be sewn to the back. Keep the back close to hand as this will be used to get a good fit. Fronts Panels are made the same way, and one is flipped over to mirror the other Panel, so there are no RS or WS rows listed in the pattern. Yarn quantities listed are enough to make a small Waistcoat. If working with a larger size garment, you may require additional yarn.
WAISTCOAT FRONT (MAKE 2)
Row 1 Using Yarn A, work a row of fdc to half the width of the back of the waistcoat. Make sure you work an even number of sts.
Row 2 Ch2 (counts as ch-sp), skip first st, ex-dc in next st, (ch1, skip 1 st, ex-dc in next st, rep across to end, turn.
Change to Yarn B.
Row 3 Ch2, (ex-dc in ch-1sp, ch1, skip 1 st) rep across to end, turn.
Change to Yarn A .
Rows 4-5As Row 3.
Rows 3-5set the pattern. Work in the following colour sequence for
Row 3 repeats: C, D, B and using Yarn A for all Rows 4-5repeats.
Work in pattern until Front measures the same length as back, up to the armhole shaping.
Fasten off.
SHAPING
Continue in colour sequence as set. Join yarn in third ch-1sp across.
Row 1 Ch1, ex-dc in next ch-sp, (ch1, skip next ch-1sp, ex-dc in next ch-sp) rep across to end, turn. [2 ch-sps decreased at armhole edge]
Row 2 Ch2, skip first ex-dc, skip next ch-sp, ex-dc in next ch-1sp, (ch1, skip next ex-dc, ex-dc in next ch-1sp) rep from * until 2 ch-sps rem unworked at end of row, turn. [3 ch-sps decreased]
Row 3 Ch2, skip next ch-1sp, ex-dc in next ch-sp, (ch1, skip next st, ex-dc in next ch-1sp) rep across to end, turn. [1 ch-sp decreased at armhole edge]
Row 4 As Row 3. [1 ch-sp decreased at neckline edge] Lay the piece on top of the Back and place markers in line with the shoulder seam on the back of the waistcoat.
Rep Rows 3-4until work meets marked ch-sps, work decrease on one side only if needed to get to both markers.
Next row Ch2, (ex-dc in ch-1sp, ch1, skip 1 st) rep across to end, turn.
