Joanne Smith

“I was thrilled to be asked to take part in this challenge. The brief was to design a winter blanket, and immediately I thought of cold evenings, snuggled on the sofa with a crochet throw. I wanted to create something nonfussy, but at the same time, a little quirky and with texture. With this in mind, I designed a stripy mesh pattern with added surface embellishment. I loved the colour palette, too!” Find Joanne at dannycatcrochet.com and on Instagram at @dannycatcrochet

Fiona Kirk

“I loved the idea of taking part in this Hook to Hook challenge and seeing what I would come up with compared to someone else. When I received the brief, I knew I wanted to do something in mosaic crochet, as this is my favourite type of design. I went with a nod to snowflakes to fit the winter theme that we were given, but mixed and matched the patterns to get a simple and cosy colourblock design.” Find Fiona on Facebook as Funky Loops Crochet and on Instagram as @funkyloopscrochet

Left to right: Joanne had a no-fuss project in mind when she designed her blanket – the result is this mesh fabric worked in trebles, chains and skipped stitches; change colour every four rows to create the striped pattern, then finish the blanket with surface crochet on eight of the rows
