True Blue

With a subtle palette of threads in blue, our monochrome photo frame allows the texture of the stitching to shine through for a beautiful, delicate effect

FIND THE TEMPLATE FOR THIS PROJECT ON PAGE 58

This piece was inspired by my love of walking through the bluebell fields at the first sign of spring – they have the wonderful ability to always lift any mood. I wanted to recreate those feelings onto a frame, that once complete with a photo of your favourite people, it will never fail to put a smile on your face.

YOU WILL NEED

MATERIALS

• Dusky blue linen, fat quarter (I’ve used Dusky Blue–Essex Linen by Robert Kaufman)

Threads: - DMC stranded cottons: - Pale blue, #928, x 3 - Blue, #927, x 8 - Dusky blue, #929, x 3 - Dark blue, #924, x 2 - Cotton thread (for backing)

• Picture frame, 23 x 23cm (I used the IKEA Hovsta Birch Effect Picture Frame)

EQUIPMENT

• Embroidery hoop, 30cm/12in (or smaller if you prefer to move your hoop around your piece)

PREPARATION

TOP TIP!

If you plan to use a smaller hoop, cut out a square of fabric 30 x 30cm, but if like me you plan to use a 12in hoop, the whole fat quarter will allow you to fit it in the frame.

1 Place your mount board in the centre of the fabric, and using your heat erasable pen, outline it onto your fabric. 1
