FIRST TESTAMAZON KINDLE COLORSOFT
Don’t book lack in anger
Fed up with your colourless Kindle? The Colorsoft is here to keep Amazon on top of the e-reader bestseller list – and maybe even let you chuck your iPad…

ince Amazon’s first ebook reader was released back in 2007, Kindles have only ever had greyscale screens. That hasn’t stopped Kindle from becoming the Tannoy or Hoover of e-readers… but with more and more rivals adding colour screens, it was starting to look a bit behind the times. Enter the
Kindle Colorsoft (minus a ‘u’ because Americans still haven’t quite cracked spelling).
With the power turned off, the Colorsoft looks practically identical to the much cheaper Paperwhite (see p32). It even shares most of its features: 32GB of storage to fill with books, IPX8 waterproofing so you can read them in the tub, and the same wireless charging as the Paperwhite Signature Edition for when you’ve drained the battery as well as your bathwater.
The difference, of course, is that this 7in screen can display colours, making your virtual bookshelves look that bit more appealing. It’s a godsend for graphic novels and kids’ books; although, without the swankier design and physical buttons that marked the old Oasis out as the king of the range, it does feel less special – despite the shimmery Amazon logo on the back.
