INSIDE TECH LG SMART COTTAGE
THERE’S A RAD HOUSE OVER YONDER
Stuff pays a visit to the tech-packed off-the-shelf homes in South Korea that could point to a smarter way of living
Prefabricated small houses that come fully furnished with gadgets, right off the back of the lorry, sounds like an unusual side-hustle for a firm best known for fridges and TVs.
But after a tour of LG’s Smart Cottage, outside the Korean tech giant’s Seoul HQ, I’m fully on board.
The new venture, which has just started taking customer orders, aims to provide small second homes to city dwellers. Almost half of South Korea’s population live in the Seoul Metropolitan Area, yet it covers less than 12% of the country; plonk an LG Smart Cottage out in the sticks and suddenly you’ve got a way to escape the rat race that doesn’t involve tents and sleeping bags.
