Amazon Kindle
I
’ve got a Kindle, but this looks like someone’s roughly hewn it from wood with an axe.
The Kindle’s been called the ‘iPod for books’, in the sense of not being the first of its kind yet changing everything. But this first version lacked Apple-style design: it was as if Amazon had whacked an Etch A Sketch with an ugly stick, got drunk and glued on loads of weird bits. Today it resembles a vision of the future from a badly made 1960s sci-fi show. Still, they must have done something right: when you think of e-readers, the name that springs to mind certainly isn’t Nook.
