Feeling so bohemian
BOHEMIANS
Designer: Jasper De Lange | Publisher: Portal Games
Bohemians paints a picture of Paris at the turn of the 20th century, where the art set is partying like it’s 1899. This is the city where sensitive types gather to stimulate their creative juices and – to coin a 21st century phrase – meet ‘their tribe.’ Does it also mean living in squalor and developing an opium addiction? Yes, it likely does. But these are merely temporary setbacks on the path to becoming a great artiste.
Before all that, players take a board and assume the role of either a painter, poet, composer or sculptor. These roles work in tandem with a random day job; such as a busker or beggar. The board represents a character’s daily routine, and is divided up into four time slots. Players get to choose what their character does each day, making use of Habit cards. These come in different suits, which earn inspiration points if matched to a corresponding spot on the board. The cards also feature icon halves, which again win inspiration points if two halves can be matched. Inspiration points can then be spent on buying more Habit cards to build a better deck, or Muse cards that tag along on daily plans and unlock special abilities. The ultimate goal is Achievement cards, as getting five of those wins the game.
