Freedom at last! School’s out for summer and you can take life at your own pace. For some, the long summer break brings excitement and relief, while for others, being out of a routine can feel more like being adrift at sea.
The good news is, once you’ve enjoyed a few lie-ins and settled into holiday mode, there are lots of inspiring things you can do to fill your free time. You could start a new low-cost hobby, such as junk journalling or coin collecting – where personal treasure or lost coins could be hiding in plain sight.
Or why not try a new sport or explore the world around you? Discover the calming effect of being near water, or study the sky on a clear night and learn about the different constellations. If you’re heading to the beach, seek out the magical homes of molluscs, better known as shells. Or if you’re interested in conservation, join this summer’s Big Butterfly Count and contribute your observations to this important national project (turn to page 38 to find out how).
On rainy days, get baking and treat your family or friends to fluffy scones and homemade jam, or simply curl up with a good book and transport yourself to another world. Each day, tune into your mood and see what you feel like doing. There’s inspiration everywhere if you look for it.
