The Searcher | June 2025
What’s new in this issue?
Our Exclusive this month is a couple of nationally significant Anglo Saxon finds from Wiltshire. One is a gold and garnet raven’s head thought to be provisionally a helmet fitting or drinking horn terminal and the other a gold band with large triangular garnets around it. Both finds were discovered on a Ninth Region dig and reported immediately to the local FLO. In the last issue, Tom Licence shared his mirror and casket burial and this month he writes about a hoard of staters he’s unearthed near Bury St Edmunds recently. Additionally, we feature the largest Iron Age hoard in Britain found by detectorist Peter Heads, consists of over 800 items and ‘alters our understanding of life in Britain over 2000 years ago’.
Our technical article this month is the first in a series by Detecting in Depth’s ‘Machines under test’, which this month, features the Nokta Legend. It’s a comprehensive deep dive into the machine’s capabilities on a test bed and digs too.
