Federal MP Matt Smith and Assistant Minister for Citizenship, Customs and Multicultural Affairs Julian Hill will be travelling in the Torres Strait with the Australian Border Force (ABF) from tomorrow and over the weekend to speak to those impacted by foreign fishing vessel incursions.
Torres Strait islander hopes for the much- anticipated Pacific pre-COP climate talks to be held in Australia have been left hanging with no date or location announced after organisers met last week and heard a bid from Palau to host.
Organised criminals trafficking illicit commodities through the Torres Strait will be the targets of a joint Australian Federal Police (AFP) and Queensland Police Service (QPS) taskforce to protect vulnerable communities and Australian sovereignty, launched last week.
