FOLLOWING WEEKS of media speculation, China Airlines has finally confirmed it has ordered four 777 Freighters. Valued at $1.4bn at list prices, the incoming jets bolster the Boeing side of the carrier’s overall fleet portfolio, which straddles both Airbus and US-designed aircraft.
Hsieh Su-Chien, China Airlines’ chairman, said existing Boeing widebodies had already helped the carrier navigate the COVID-19 crisis: “The 777 Freighter has played a critical role in our efforts to maintain profitability during the pandemic, and these additional airplanes will be an integral part of our long-term growth strategy. We are excited to add more 777Fs... Our fleet modernisation programme will enable us to deliver added value to our customers, especially as the global supply chain continues to evolve.”
