LURE A BIG PIKE!
Casting the big stuff for pike is not for the faint-hearted. It’s not really for small or shallow waters, either, though with some of the hybrid lures you can fish them quite shallow where need be. The real home of this type of fishing is the big lakes or trout waters, where big pike get big by eating sizeable prey, and this is exactly what you are trying to replicate by employing this tactic. The first thing to note is that, even if you go to a tackle shop and part with £15-20 for a big, soft plastic lure, if you haven’t got the right rods, reels and line, you will never be able to cast it! So it is quite a big investment in this type of fishing, but the rewards can be phenomenal.
