Angling Times  |  10th July 2018
SIXTY FIVE GLORIOUS YEARS
Sixty five years ago today – July 10, 1953 – the first-ever issues of Angling
Times hit the newsagents’ shelves. Like all the best ideas, Angling Times was conceived after some chats in a pub gathered momentum, and a group of ‘legends’ such as Bernard Venables, Dick Walker, Colin Willock, Howard Marshall and John Bennett formed its inaugural editorial team. The new paper (all twelve pages of it!) was launched and grew at a rapid pace as new writers came on board, each offering a glimpse into the evolving world of coarse, sea, game and carp fishing. Just as it is today, Angling Times was the only place to read the inside, in-depth stories on the best catches, the biggest matches, the
hottest venues and the greatest anglers.
